女子[Yeoja] A is a photographic work influenced by modern female artists from the end of 19th century to the 20th century: Nah Hyeseok, Sylvia Plath, Zelda Fitzgerald, and Virginia Woolf. The Enlightenment of the 18th century began to provide women with opportunities of high-quality education and open doors for them to go to society. However, the value of women has been underestimated because of deep-rooted male chauvinism and age-old bias against women. In addition, there is still the invisible glass ceiling, which requires women to follow their traditional roles and prevents them from displaying their talents. Ultimately, these social prejudices make it difficult for women to live the life which they dream of. Sadly, they are doomed to end up failing in life. Then, what may bring such a sad fate? The work, 女子[Yeoja] A, comes from a doubt why they have to go through such a tough life although they are well-educated as precious daughters in the great growth era of the 21st century.

The film work was inspired by Street Haunting written by Virginia Woolf. In a city where women were not allowed to walk down the street, the great writer wandered around as much as she could and left stunning articles about her trail. The video was taken in the same city, following the places which she mentioned in the book.
Both displays are raising a question of how much change in women’s status has taken place in the 21st century: Are female artists allowed to walk around as freely as they want?
